Standing Strong: Using Standing Yoga Postures for Functional Movement
Finding strong alignment in standing yoga postures, and smooth transitions between them, can help condition us for optimal everyday or sporting movement. It involves calibrating your mind and body, teaching your body to better negotiate the laws of physics with the most efficient use of your energy.
Some issues with group yoga classes are that students often don’t get an opportunity to understand a) explicitly why these movements are beneficial for their health, and b) why they may be continuing to struggle in certain standing postures, or not quite understanding the teacher’s cues.
This workshop is designed to address these issues. We will discuss some basic anatomy and biomechanics to help depict the utility of the movements. And, most crucially, we’ll explore why your individual body may need unique cues to help get you into true alignment.
You don’t need to be a yoga practitioner to attend. In fact, the emphasis of this workshop is not on yoga as a strict discipline, but rather yoga as another tool to help us optimise our movement.
